Encouraging Children to Reach Their Dreams
You Are A Star NFP is a Chicago-based nonprofit organization dedicated to encouraging children, especially those of color, to reach for their dreams. Through community outreach in schools and churches, You Are A Star brings stories full of people of color doing extraordinary, and even magical, things to life right on stage in an interactive and inspirational production. These stories highlight the inherent good in all people, but especially the goodness so often overlooked in areas where many of these children reside.

Well, first off, NFP stands for Not For Profit which means we aren’t a business and don’t sell things. We’re totally devoted to giving – of ourselves, our time, and our enthusiasm – to children all across this great city. Oh, and love. There’s a great deal of that involved in what we do – love of helping others, love of our fellow man, and love for our community. Plus, there’s plenty left over for every child we come in contact with and some in store for those we miss this time around. One day, when we’re all grown up, much like the children we entertain and inspire, we want to reach every child of color across this nation and deliver our message of positivity and empowerment. So, in short, You Are A Star is a group of people who want each and every boy and girl of color to know we care about them, about their health, and about their emotional and spiritual well-being.
A StarDreamer is a child tasked with protecting the dreams of good children throughout the universe. It’s a StarDreamers responsibility to reach for their dreams every single day and to never give up on those dreams – or themselves. StarDreamers believe in the power of good over bad, of helping over harming, and of working together instead of against one another. A StarDreamer uses their gifts to elevate themselves and others, to inspire greatness in their lives and their community. Each and every child of color in Chicago, indeed all children everywhere, have a StarDreamer inside them and all it takes is hard work, a strong character, and a firm belief to bring it out into the world and share it with the people who need it most. StarDreamers know the value of kindness and act to shelter those in need. After all, that’s what the Land of YesYouCan is all about!
As a nonprofit devoted to enriching and inspiring the youth of color in Chicago, You Are A Star is always looking for good people to help us in our mission. Whether it’s by volunteering behind the scenes, acting on stage, or helping us with fundraising, there’s always something you can do to help us reach our goals. We accept donations which are completely tax deductible. We accept donated items that we can use to put on our shows and much more we’d be willing to discuss with you if you contact one of our Directors. In the end, all we want to do is more for the children, so your time, your dollars, and your sharing of our mission are all equally effective and much appreciated by all of us at You Are A Star NFP.
